Dawit Abebe

Biography

Dawit Abebe was born in 1978 in Addis Ababa, where he still lives and works. Upon graduating from the School of Fine Arts in Addis Ababa in 2001, he created, together with four of his classmates, the first collective studio in the country, the Habesha Art Studio. To this day, they still work and live in the studio.

“The central idea that I try to approach is the dichotomy between the reality that each of us perceives, our bodies, our cities, our possessions, and that other level of reality that just as readily defines who we are, our thoughts, our desires, our beliefs. These two realities are always present, but do not mix in my opinion”.
